Dangote Petroleum Refinery announced on Friday, January 12, 2024, that its multibillion-dollar oil-refining facility has officially commenced production of diesel and aviation fuel, along with other petroleum products in Lagos.
Alhaji Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group, expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support and guidance throughout the project, acknowledging his visionary leadership and prompt attention to details, which played a crucial role in overcoming various challenges.
Dangote also extended appreciation to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Limited), Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), and Nigerian consumers for their support and belief in the historic energy project.
He stated, “We have started the production of diesel and aviation fuel, and the products will be in the market within this month once we receive regulatory approvals.”
The oil refinery had earlier received six million barrels of crude oil at its two Single Point Moorings (SPMs) located 25 kilometers from the shore, with the first crude delivery on December 12, 2023, and the sixth cargo on January 8, 2024.
Dangote Group mentioned that the refinery could load 2,900 trucks a day at its truck-loading gantries, and the products would conform to Euro V specifications. The refinery design complies with international emission norms, employing state-of-the-art technology.
Dangote expressed pride in reaching this significant milestone, describing it as a game-changer for Nigeria and a demonstration of the country’s ability to develop and deliver large capital projects.
He also thanked bankers, financiers, the Government of Lagos State led by Babajide Sanwo-Olu, host communities, traditional leaders, and the project staff for their contributions to the success of the project.
