The Delta State House of Assembly has completed the screening and confirmation process for 18 out of 26 nominees recommended by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to take up crucial roles as commissioners and members of the State Executive Council.
The confirmation proceedings were conducted on Wednesday in Asaba, with the Assembly’s Speaker, Mr. Dennis Guwor, presiding over the floor.
Among the nominees who underwent rigorous screening were Mr. Charles Aniagwu, the immediate past commissioner for Information, Mr. Samuel Oligida, Prof. Johnbull Tonukari, Mr. Isaac Wilkie, and Mrs. Pat Ajudua, the immediate past Chief Whip of the Assembly. Also, former Assembly members, including Joan Ada-Anioma and Mr. Reuben Izeze, successfully passed the screening process. Chief Fidelis Tilije, the immediate past commissioner for Finance, Mrs. Rose Ezewu, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, and Miss Pride Uduaghan also emerged as confirmed nominees.
Furthermore, Mr. Vincent Oyibode, Mr. Michael Anoka, Mr. Funyei Manager, Mr. Daniel Odinigwe, Mr. Onoriode Agofure, Mr. Sonny Ekedayen, and Mr. Godknows Angeles were among those screened.
The Speaker, Dennis Guwor, congratulated the confirmed nominees and encouraged them to remain dedicated to serving the state. He also expressed appreciation to the lawmakers for their commitment and diligence throughout the screening process.
“Let me use this opportunity to thank you for taking time to screen the nominees. You have done well”, he said.
Speaking on behalf of the other nominees, Mr. Charles Aniagwu conveyed their gratitude to the governor for their selection. He highlighted that the governor’s “MORE agenda” would undoubtedly bring positive impacts to the lives of the state’s residents.
“With the calibre of persons that have been nominated for appointment as commissioners, the MORE agenda of the governor would impact on the lives of the people of Delta,’’ he commented.
He also urged the state’s residents to exercise patience, assuring them that the governor’s “MORE agenda” would soon have a widespread and positive impact throughout the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the Assembly is scheduled to continue the screening process for the remaining eight nominees on Tuesday.
