In response to the foiled attack on the residence of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken a firm stance. They have called upon the country’s security agencies to take action by summoning and interrogating the leaders of the PDP. The demand was expressed by the APC’s spokesperson, Felix Morka, in a statement issued on Tuesday night.
Morka’s statement criticized the PDP, accusing them of consistently spreading false information and engaging in meaningless rhetoric. According to the APC, the PDP has become fixated on such behavior after suffering a substantial defeat in the previous Presidential Election.
The situation reflects the heightened tensions between the two major political parties in the country, as security concerns and political rivalries continue to play a significant role in Nigeria’s political landscape. The call for investigation aims to hold the PDP accountable for the attempted attack on their Presidential candidate’s residence and to address concerns about potential security threats during the post-election period.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has once again made unfounded and baseless claims, stating that the All Progressives Congress (APC) funded suspected members of the Boko Haram terrorist group. These individuals were arrested by the police after their failed attempt to attack the residence of the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, in Yola. The PDP’s accusations are part of their ongoing campaign to discredit the APC, but they lack substantial evidence to support their claims.
The statement made was as follows, “We call on the Police, State Security Services SSS and other relevant security services to investigate the PDP’s wild and bogus allegations, invite the PDP’s leadership to substantiate these claims and bring the perpetrators to justice”
Morka stated that the “bizarre and senseless allegation comes only days after the same badly ailing Party alleged, without a shred of substantiation, that APC was engaged in a plot to intimidate members of the judiciary seeking to influence the outcome of pending cases before the Election Petitions Courts”.
According to him, the PDP’s relentless politicization of critical security and national issues for their self-serving and dark humor is utterly irresponsible.
“As an age-old Party, this ceaseless display of egregious incivility in the conduct of its affairs is disgraceful and sad” he said.
He further stated that, “Acts of terror or involvement in a terrorist plot are heinous crimes under the law and the PDP cannot continue to bandy allegations around without justification. Atiku Abubakar is a citizen of Nigeria and deserves the fullest protection of the law. Our law enforcement authorities must protect and investigate any threat to his person, family or assets and prosecute offenders”.
“However, Atiku Abubakar’s PDP cannot continue to peddle criminal blackmail and wicked falsehoods in the name of opposition politics, unrestrained and without accountability”.
“Nigerians roundly rejected the PDP at the polls. Rather than engage in some introspection and give the court the time of day to deliver a verdict in the case they have brought challenging the election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, they have chosen to busy themselves with swimming in abysmal pool of lies and mischief”.
He added by saying that, “While vigorously defending our legitimate and popular election mandate in court, our Party will continue to win the hearts and minds of Nigerians through President Tinubu’s strategic program of social and economic development designed to improve the living conditions of our people”.
