Solomon Marren, a representative from Plateau State in the House of Representatives, has made a distressing claim that approximately 200 individuals have lost their lives in his constituency over the course of a few months. Marren, who serves the Mangu/Bokkos Federal Constituency, released a statement on Wednesday evening urging President Muhammadu Buhari to direct security agencies to safeguard lives and property in the area.
In his statement, Marren revealed, “I feel it is crucial to inform the world about the unfortunate events unfolding in my constituency, Mangu/Bokkos Federal Constituency, Plateau State. In the past two days alone, more than 100 individuals, mostly women and children, have been brutally massacred by terrorists in an unprovoked overnight attack. Their homes, along with their food supplies, granaries, and crops, have been set ablaze.”
“These killings are just a fraction of the tragic events occurring in the constituency, with over 200 people losing their lives in the past four months alone. While the government may claim to be doing its best, their efforts have proven insufficient as the killings persist year after year. Nonetheless, I commend the few brave officers who, despite lacking adequate weaponry, have dedicated themselves to saving lives.”
Marren emphasized that it is the President’s duty to not only condemn these heinous acts but also to take immediate action in protecting lives and property, which is the primary responsibility of the government. He pleaded with the President to promptly deploy security agencies to the area to curb the ongoing bloodshed.
The lawmaker called upon the National Emergency Management Authority and other well-intentioned organizations to provide relief materials for the injured survivors of the attack. “While I seek support from all sectors, I strongly denounce this attack and appeal for calm, urging no one to take the law into their own hands, Marren concluded.
