The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has granted MTN Nigeria a spectrum lease transaction from Natcom Development and Investment Limited.
The transaction will allow MTN Nigeria to lease two spectrums, the 5HMz Frequency Division Duplex and the 10HMz FDD from NTEL, and covers 19 states in the country.
The transaction, which cost MTN Nigeria N4.25 billion and includes taxes, regulatory fees, and auxiliary charges as transaction costs, is for a period of two years, starting from May 1, 2023, according to Nairametrics reports.
The Chief Executive Officer of MTN Nigeria, Karl Toriola, expressed his excitement, saying, “This is a significant milestone in delivering our Ambition 2025 strategy.
The access to NTEL’s 90OMHz and 1800MHz spectrums broadens our spectrum holdings and improves our 3G and 4G user experience as coverage and capacity will be enhanced by utilizing these spectrums.”
This transaction will give MTN Nigeria an opportunity to improve its network coverage and capacity, providing better services for its 3G and 4G users in Nigeria.
